If you are interested in Chinese Chess, or would like to see a real battle of talent and wits in this traditional Chinese game, then you should head down to Stockwell on 16th September 2012 for the UK Chinese Chess Championship!
Sponsored by Dr Malcolm Chandler (a regular at Min River Tea) and organised by the UK Chinese Chess Association, it's a friendly competition open to anyone with an interest in Chinese Chess. The event starts at 10.30am, and you'll need to register first (details below).
Chinese chess is something I see being played regularly here on the streets of Fuzhou by grizzled looking old men intently studying their next move. Much like the table-tennis scene in the recent Karate Kid movie, where the young Jaden Smith gets beaten by a doddering old man, I mostly stay away just to keep my pride intact!
